About Star Group
As a group, the group began with its first company, Star Chartering, which was founded in 1989 by Mr. N N Rai, one of the most respected and oldest members of the shipping community in New Delhi, India. Historically, the company has been involved in dry bulk shipping for more than three decades.
Star Chartering was approved and registered as Ship Brokers of the Central Chartering Committee for all Indian imports and exports. This was the chartering arm of the Ministry of Shipping (popularly referred to as Transchart).
It was envisaged that the company would provide a full range of shipping solutions under one roof using ethical and professional methods. After flagging off in 1989, the Group grew many folds, adding companies and achieving milestones in dry bulk ship brokerage, as well as diversified arms such as steamer agency, commodity trading, and consultancy.
About the Founder - Mr.N.N. rai
Widely recognized as the de facto “Coal King” for a quarter-century, Nav Nidhi Rai was an experienced, well-respected ship broker and agent; a talented, cross-cultural negotiator; and a successful owner of his enterprise. Referred to as the “Encyclopaedia of shipping” Mr Rai’s deep knowledge of the shipping industry was broadly recognized. His colleagues, friends, employees, and the ship owners he worked with all remember him as gentle, hospitable, and with deep wisdom, which was as exceptional – especially in the shipping industry.
About Our Managing Director
Currently, the group is led by Mr. Nimitt Rai Tiwari, who is the third generation of this shipping family. According to him, “Shipping is in his blood”. Graduated from the UK with a degree in Maritime, he believes in the significance of preserving relationships and providing exceptional service.
