As a group, the group began with its first company, Star Chartering, which was founded in 1989 by Mr. N N Rai, one of the most respected and oldest members of the shipping community in New Delhi, India. Historically, the company has been involved in dry bulk shipping for more than three decades.
Star Chartering was approved and registered as Ship Brokers of the Central Chartering Committee for all Indian imports and exports. This was the chartering arm of the Ministry of Shipping (popularly referred to as Transchart).
It was envisaged that the company would provide a full range of shipping solutions under one roof using ethical and professional methods. After flagging off in 1989, the Group grew many folds, adding companies and achieving milestones in dry bulk ship brokerage, as well as diversified arms such as steamer agency, commodity trading, and consultancy.
